So, do you have any connection to Hereford?
No…
Well, now you will!
– Our introductory conversation with Lyde Court
So where do you want me to go?
You know that iconic English countryside? The one with endless rolling hills dotted with loads of sheep. Yep, that’s where we want you to go.
Oh, you want more detail than that because that happens to describe basically all of England? Fair enough.
We’re getting married in Hereford, a quaint riverside city three-hours west of London. The wedding will be in Lyde Court, a 17th century stone barn that looks straight from a fairytale.
What exactly is the plan?
As we’re lucky enough to have friends and family travelling from far and wide to celebrate with us, we’d like to make a whole weekend of our wedding so we can spend lots of time together.
Friday 23rd September – A night out in Hereford for our guests who are traveling to the UK from overseas
Saturday 24th September – Arrive at Lyde Court beginning 1pm; the wedding ceremony will start at 2pm; celebrations will run straight through to the wee hours
Sunday 25th September – We’ll then conclude the weekend with Dom’s favourite bit – a Full English breakfast (with vegan and veggie options!) back at Lyde Court at 8.30am
How do I get there?
The best way to get to Hereford from London is by train. There are direct trains from London Paddington station to Hereford which take just under three hours. Check out timing and prices on Trainline. If you indicated in the formal RSVP form that you’d like to travel on our train on Friday morning, we’ll book your tickets for the Friday and be in touch with the time and cost, but please book your own return tickets.
To get to Lyde Court from Hereford town centre you have two options:
1. Do a Domdi and walk three miles to Lyde Court (the first half on suburban pavements/sidewalks and the latter half on beautiful country lanes)
2. Do what you’re actually going to do and book a cab. The cost should be less than £10 one way and will take about 10 minutes. Local cab companies as follows:
– Hereford Karl’s Taxis
– Hereford Rank Taxis
– Blue Line Taxis
And for sleepy time?
The best bit about Lyde Court is that many of us can have a giant slumber party together! Lyde Court offers dormitory-style accommodation on-site Saturday night in Oast House for £37 per bed (and that includes our breakfast together on Sunday!). Please make sure to book your bunk directly with Lyde Court using this form.
For those who need a bit more privacy, feel free to have a look at the following hotels in Hereford:
– The Green Dragon Hotel
– Castle House (If you book Castle House, do say you’re visiting for the Lawrence-Self wedding and you’ll get a 10% discount.)
– Premier Inn Hereford City Centre
All of these hotels are within walking distance of the Hereford train station and city centre and just a 10 min taxi from the wedding venue. Of course feel free to explore smaller B&Bs and Airbnbs as well.
